The city plans to start demolishing four structures located between Ninth and Sunshine avenues.

The demolition, which will take place weather permitting and will start Monday, aims “to enhance safety and aesthetics for the trailhead being constructed as part of the Spring Gulch No. 2 Greenway Project, according to a news release.

The city conducted a cultural resource survey of this site prior to the decision to demolish the buildings, according to the release.

The greenway project includes construction of a greenway trail connection and drainage improvements along the Spring Gulch No. 2 drainage in the northeast part of Longmont, according to the project webpage

It is being done in three phases, which when complete “will provide an important north-south greenway connection running from Ute Creek Golf Course southeast to Union Reservoir, continuing on to Sandstone Ranch Nature Area and then connecting with the St. Vrain Greenway,” according to the webpage.

Underway, this phase includes construction of the greenway trail and drainage improvements from Stephen Day Park southeast to the Union Reservoir Nature Area at Weld County Road 26. Work includes installing a 10-foot concrete greenway with a 3-foot crusher fine trail, a box culvert system consisting of a pedestrian underpass and two drainage culverts under County Line Road, and relocating the Lower Oligarchy Ditch, according to the webpage.
