City's curbside leaf collection starts next week

Leaves will be collected at residences north of Ninth Avenue Monday through Nov. 6, and at residences south of Ninth Avenue Nov. 9-13, according to a post on the city’s website.

Longmont’s annual free curbside leaf collection begins next week.

Leaves will be collected at residences north of Ninth Avenue Monday through Nov. 6, and at residences south of Ninth Avenue Nov. 9-13, according to a post on the city’s website.

Leaves must be bagged, no piles will be collected, and paper bags are preferred to help reduce plastic waste, according to the city. Bags must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. Monday of the scheduled collection week and should be left out until collected.

“Only one pass will be made through each neighborhood, so be sure to have leaves out before 7 a.m. on the Monday of your collection week,” the city stated in the post. “Any leaf bags put out after the collection day will not be collected by the city and will be the responsibility of the homeowner.”

Bagged leaves will not be collected in alleys or on private property, even if trash and recycling collection occurs in an alley, according to the city.

Residents that miss the curbside collection or prefer to dispose of leaves on their own schedules can take them to the Waste Diversion Center, 140 Martin St. The center accepts yard waste year-round. Curbside composting subscribers can add leaves to their composting cart at any time, loose or in paper bags, according to the city.
