Skies above Moffat County show little smoke in the area

Fire crews in the Moffat County area made large strides to contain the Collom fire yesterday, despite gusty winds.

Temperatures in the area reached 104F yesterday with wind gusts ranging from 40 to 60mph, with an average wind speed of 9.3mph according to the National Weather Service.

Late yesterday evening, the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office reported fire crews working on the Collum fire reached 85% containment. The vast improvement has freed up “a significant portion of the fire crews,” who will be released from the fire, a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office stated.

Although very little smoke is reported from the site, Moffat County Sheriff’s crews and the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control “will continue to engage at the fire site until it is deemed out and cold,” the post states.
