No longer will customers be able to purchase single-use plastic bags from Colorado grocery, convince and retail stores.
The second phase of the Colorado Plastic Reduction Act went into effect on Jan. 1. This phase bans single-use plastic bags from large grocery, convenience and retail stores. The new phase also eliminates the use of polystyrene foam — Styrofoam — takeout containers and cup use at restaurants and schools.
Businesses will be allowed to use up any stock that remains but not purchase new items. Paper bags may still be available and purchased for 10 cents.
Small businesses are exempt from the program. A small business is defined as operating with three or fewer locations in Colorado and not being part of a franchise, corporation or partnership that has locations outside of the state.
