County Commissioners Tuesday will consider closing off areas in western Boulder County to shooting, including in the Magnolia and the Raymond/Riverside communities. The commissioners may also expand an existing closure in the Sugarloaf community.
The public hearing on the “No-Firearm Discharge Area Shooting Closure” is scheduled for 1pm.
County staff will present maps and boundary recommendations of potential closure areas.
A map shows that within the Sugarloaf firearm discharge prohibition area there are 578 housing units with an estimated population of 1,252 people.
The Raymond-Riverside Firearm Discharge Prohibition Area includes 115 housing units with an estimated population of 222 people, according to a county map.
The Magnolia Firearm Discharge Prohibition Area includes 380 housing units, with an estimated population of 845 people, the county map states.
Representatives from the Magnolia, Raymond/Riverside, and Sugarloaf communities are scheduled to speak at the public hearing. Also scheduled are representatives from the sheriff’s office, Colorado Parks & Wildlife, and the U.S. Forest Service, according to a county news release.
