Students at the Boulder County campus of Front Range Community College will display their artwork to be judged this week at Longmont’s Firehouse Art Center.

This is the sixth annual juried show sponsored by the Art Center for student artists at Front Range, Elaine Waterman, executive director of the Art Center, said in a news release.

“The show is a continuation of an academic goal set by John Cross, Lead Faculty for the art program, and the Firehouse’s commitment to educational and professional opportunities for emerging artists and students,” Waterman said. “Students experience the challenges and joys of presenting their work professionally, from documenting their pieces to professional framing.”

The show is a competitive entry open to all art students from Spring 2022, Summer 2022, and the current semester. Prizes are arranged in categories: 2D Design, 3D Design, Drawing, Painting, and Graphic Design. There will also be a Juror’s Choice award and a VP Purchase award, in which the college purchases work for its permanent collection, according to the news release.

“I am extremely proud of the work our instructors put into their classes and the artwork the students produce as a result of their experience in the studios,” Cross said in the news release. “The hard work and dedication our students pour into their work shows in the high quality of the art they produce.”

Juror Clara Nulty lives and works in Louisville. Nulty completed her MFA in Painting at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in May 2021. She also holds a BA in Studio Art from Carleton College in Northfield, MN, where she graduated magna cum laude in 2014.

She currently teaches painting and drawing at Colorado State University and Front Range Community College. She has shown at galleries across the United States, according to the news release.

Recently her work has been featured in exhibitions at Ortega y Gasset in Brooklyn, NY, the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Smith House in Bloomfield Hills, MI, Alluvium Gallery in Grand Rapids, MI, and D’Art Gallery in Denver exhibitions curated by Dr. Gwen Chanzit and Doug Kacena, the news release states. Nulty has also had recent solo exhibitions at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center in Birmingham, MI and the Firehouse Art Center.
