Background
There are many ways to get around Boulder County, but rising costs, a growing population, and new technologies are changing how people use transportation. On top of these changes, costs to maintain the system continue to rise.
We can achieve our vision of a sustainable and inclusive transportation network, but we need to work together to prioritize our transportation investments, explore new funding options, and plan for the future. The county’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP) provides a blueprint for Boulder County’s transportation system for the next 25 years. Funding is needed to fulfill the plan and serve the community.
Boulder County currently has an existing one-tenth-of-one-percent sales tax that expires on June 30, 2024. The Countywide Transportation Sales Tax currently funds a specific list of 44 projects that includes:
- 10 roadway improvements
- 13 road shoulder projects
- 6 transit projects
- 1 Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program
- 5 pedestrian improvements
- 9 countywide regional trails projects
Boulder County is actively seeking opportunities to leverage county funding with new state and federal funding opportunities. Proposed future funding will be used to provide safe, sustainable, and affordable transportation choices for people throughout the county for today and into the future. Existing and future multimodal transportation system throughout Boulder County include roads, bridges, transit, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, plus mobility options for people of all stages of life.
