WanaBana, Schnucks and Weis-brand cinnamon applesauce and apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches have been recalled due to a discovery of lead in the applesauce pouches.
WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree is sold at Dollar Tree and Family Dollar. It can also be found in online retailers such as Amazon. The Federal Drug Administration recalled the WanaBana product on Dec. 13, however on Dec. 19 it received a report that some recalled products may still be on the shelves in some stores.
Schnucks-brand applesauce are sold at Schnucks and Eatwell Market grocery stores and Weis-brand is sold at Weis grocery stores.
The cinnamon ingredient used in the applesauce was found to contain the lead. It came from the Austrofoods manufacturing facility in Ecuador.
So far the FDA has received 82 confirmed complaints and reports of adverse events potentially linked to the recalled applesauce.
As of Dec. 18, the FDA has tested multiple other products but has not found lead in any of them and will not be adding additional products to the recall list at this time.
