Longmont Mayor Joan Peck read a proclamation designating June 2025 as “LGBTQ+ Pride Month” in the city of Longmont during the June 3 city council meeting.
“The LGBTQ+ community has made and continues to make significant contributions to the cultural, civic, and economic successes of the city of Longmont and the state of Colorado,” the proclamation stated. “Longmont recognizes that visibility, advocacy, local engagement, and education are vital to creating a community where all individuals can live safely and free from discrimination.”
Pride Month is celebrated internationally each year in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan.
The Longmont Pride Festival, which is organized by Rocky Mountain Equality, is scheduled for this Saturday, June 7 at Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Avenue, from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Proclamations are issued by the mayor to recognize local events, programs, and nonprofit organizations, according to the city’s website. Residents may submit proclamation requests to the office of the mayor.
It’s not uncommon for the mayor to issue proclamations. At the city council’s May 20 meeting, a proclamation designating May as “Archaeological and Historic Preservation Month” in Longmont was read into the record.
