Book Launch Party & Storytime with author Andrea Wang and illustrator Hyewon Yum

On Saturday May 21 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. the city of Longmont Library and Wandering Jellyfish Bookshop will host a meet-and-greet for the author and illustrator of “Luli and the Language of Tea,”Newbery Honor and APALA award-winning author Andrea Wang. 

In her work, Wang explores culture, creative thinking, and identity. Her new book “Luli and the Language of Tea” emphasizes the importance of bridging cultural divides by finding a common bond with everyone where tea becomes a metaphor for unifying a diverse set of children and teaches kids about acceptance. 

The event is for all ages, but is best for children who are in kindergarten through third grade and will be held in the Longmont Public Library’s meeting rooms at 409 4th Avenue. Registration is required for this event.

 

May 19 

Glass Fusing for Adults at Crackpots Pottery Studio 

In this introductory class, you will learn the characteristics of glass and how heat transforms it into something so beautiful. We'll give you a comprehensive look at all of the materials and tools available to you at our studio, and we'll guide you through the planning and design of your piece. Your project will be fired and ready for you in approximately one week. The cost of the class is $15 (due at registration), plus the cost of the project you choose that evening. Project prices begin at $8 for a 3" base. The class will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. 

Entomology Match the Hatch at Angles Sports Ski, Board and Fly Fishing Shop Fly-fishing Entomology teaches students the aquatic insects, their life cycles, and other living creatures that are involved in fish diets. The class begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. This class also helps students read the water and with fly placement when casting. The class is designed for students 16 and up, with a cost of $35 for residents or $43.75 for non-residents.

Tony Crank Classical Guitar at Bootstrap Brewing

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Enjoy an evening of beautiful classical guitar with Tony. And, we never know who else might jump on the stage with him!

May 20 

Drop-In Family Story Time at the City  of Longmont Public Library 

The event begins at 10 a.m. and consists of a 30-minute Friday fun storytime designed for children of all ages and their grown-ups! This storytime will include longer picture books, so expect a little more sitting and listening. Silly singing and movement will also be included. Meet us in the Library's Meeting Rooms, located by the West/Kimbark Street Entrance.

Live Music at Bootstrap Brewing

Jazz at the Times Collaborative 

An evening of intimate listening room jazz featuring vocalist Karyna Balch and pianist Charles Blenzig at the Times Collaborative in downtown Longmont. Custom cocktails by Abbott & Wallace and small plates by Rising Tiger. A perfect night out in the Longmont Creative District! The event begins at 8:30 p.m. and ends at 11:30 p.m. 

 

May 21

Intro to Fly Fishing Full Day at Angles Sports Ski, Board and Fly Fishing Shop 

This intro class is intended for any age or skill level that is interested in fly fishing and will cover a full basic knowledge of the sport. The Class will start at 8am meeting in our class room upstairs of our showroom floor @ 463 Main St in Longmont, and will go till 4:30 pm. Attendees will have an hour break for lunch. After lunch we will meet down at the river where we can talk about how to read the river and where the fish most likely are while we integrate new learned entomology knowledge. Also while we are in an open grass area, the class will learn basic casting skills.The class will be instructed by Ryan "Fish" Albert, Head Guide for Angles Sports.

Saturday brunch is back with drink and food specials! From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come enjoy our patio with your friends!

Taste of Bricks at 512 4th Avenue 

It's World Whisky Day so for this month we will feature several items in the store to try with this theme in mind. Honey, Jam and Caramels.. so sweet! We will have out Helliemae's Whiskey Love Bomb caramels, Brad B Jammin Peach Bourbon Jam and much more.. as well as Bee Squared Honey made with local whiskey!! Stop by from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to sample!

300 Moons: Late Night Comedy at 300 Suns Brewing 

Stay up past your bedtime for some laughs! We're having a stand up comedy event with some sketches in between. The always hilarious Mitch Jones is headlining! The event begins at 9 p.m. and tickets are $10. Tickets can be purchased here.

LOCO Ukulele Jam with Brian Rezac! At Bootstrap Brewing  

Every Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Bootstrap Brewing hosts a Ukulele jam. Whether you want to learn how to play the Ukulele or already do and want to join the fun, wipe off your uke and join in- it's blast! Host Brian Rezac has extras you can borrow. Or, just come enjoy a beer and watch. All ages and levels are welcome.

Full Throttle Yoga at Bootstrap Brewing

Join us from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. for Full Throttle Yoga, which is a revolutionary power yoga community, a technically simple and physically challenging way to practice a new way of being on and off the mat. Lino Block Printing Class at Firehouse Art Center

Join Rachel Courtney from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. for a block painting class. Use blocks, cutters and brayers to create a reusable relief print of your own creation. All materials will be provided and the class is $40 at Firehouse Art Center, 667 4th Avenue, Longmont, CO 80501. RSVP here. Students will have the opportunity to make 2 designs on 4x6 lino. Bring any sketches you may need to complete them, they can be cut into smaller sizes, you can draw straight on to the lino, or free cut the designs.

Drop-In Bilingual Storytime at the City of Longmont Public Library 

On Monday from 10-10:30 a.m. join us for stories and songs in Spanish and English for children of all ages! All aged children with a grown-up are welcome, but this storytime is best for 3 years and older. Meet us in the Library's Meeting Rooms, located by the West/Kimbark Street Entrance.

Emergency Preparedness Clinic at Boulder County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena 

If you are a horse owner, please consider joining us for an upcoming Emergency Preparedness Clinic on May 23, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. Learn how to make an emergency plan, what to do when you see smoke, and how to evacuate strategically. No advanced registration is required. For more information please click here.

Ignition Dance Fitness- Zumba Class at Elks Lodge 

Join Liliana and Katie, licensed Zumba instructors, for a high energy dance fitness class in the Elks ballroom! Every Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.  LiveStream is also available.

Open Mic with Denny Driscoll at Bootstrap Brewing

May 24

Guided Hike in Rocky Mountain National Park hosted by Angles Sports Ski, Board and Fly Fishing Shop 

Join us on a hiking adventure in Rocky Mountain National Park. Learn about the flora, fauna, geography, and other great locations in the park and around CO. Be prepared to hike 2-4 miles and see receipt for what you need to pack. Price is per day and includes admission to Rocky Mountain National Park. Meet in Estes Park at 10 p.m. and is expected to end at 1 p.m. More details will be distributed on receipt once booked. The event will cost $120 for residents and $150 for non-residents. 

Karaoke with Nic at Bootstrap Brewing! 

From 6-9 p.m. join Nic at Bootstrap Brewing for a fun-night of Karaoke! Speakeasy Open Mic 

The Speakeasy Open Mic Night in Longmont is the place to take the stage in Longmont. Sign-up starts at 7 p.m., the first performer starts at 8 p.m. Singers, instrumentalists, comedians, poets, hip-hop artists, and more! All are welcome! Come see the premiere acts in the area, from brand new artists to seasoned performers. The event occurs every Tuesday night. The event will conclude at 12 a.m.

Drop-In Baby Storytime at the City of  Longmont Public Library 

The reading starts at 10 a.m., get ready for an interactive storytime designed for infants to age 2 and their grownup! Enjoy 20 minutes of short stories, songs, rhymes, bouncing, and fun for children and adults. Baby Storytime is a great way to build language, social-emotional, and pre-literacy skills! Meet us in the Library's Meeting Rooms, located by the West/Kimbark Street Entrance.

Art & Creative Business Workshop with Coy Ink at Firehouse Art Center 

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. meet with other art & creative businesses to discuss struggles, successes, tips and resources. Professional advice and feedback from Coy Ink. This workshop is customized to meet you at whatever stage you're in with your art or creative business. The class size will be a max of 10 people in a similar situation to yourself. This provides the opportunity to learn from and lean on your fellow classmates and their experiences. I’ll spend time ahead of the class gathering info and research before the class starts to answer your questions and provide resources to help you get started. So you want to start a mobile food biz? Conversations with Lew Miller, BBQ Pit-master 

Do you have dreams of starting a food truck? This is the perfect event to come hear tips, tricks and pitfalls to avoid. Lew Miller based in Erie has won awards, competed, judged, taught and consulted others on BBQ and many aspects of the industry. Join us from 5:30 p.m to 6:30 p.m. at 512 4th Street for this casual conversation about his past, present and future. Come talk with the expert! Space is limited. It is free to attend, but an RSVP IS required in advance.

Advanced Paddleboard Class 

This class is for the person who has taken the intro class or someone who knows the basics, but wants to learn advanced skills and has questions. We will provide info on free and paid local destinations and the Colorado safety regulations you must abide by. Basic safety and emergency skills will be covered. We will teach paddling techniques such as the J stroke, the Goon stroke, the Pry stroke and many more. Paddleboards and PFDs will be provided, but it is recommended you bring your own equipment. This is primarily an “on water” course and you should be able to stand up comfortably on your board. The class will meet at Flanders Park on the north side of Lake McIntosh at 6:30 p.m. and the class will end at 9 p.m. The class will be instructed by Matt Burditt, Dakota Serrette, and Nathan Otteman. Movie Night In the Backyard  at Summit Tacos  

Every Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Summit Tacos will be hosting a movie night. Tickets are $5 for adults, and kids under ten-years- old get in free! Back bar will be open slingin' drinks and popcorn. Restaurant is open until 9 p.m. Bring your own chair or blankets!

$5 All You Can Play for Quarters Club Members at Quarters Bar and Arcade

Quarters Bar+Arcade, "$5 All You Can Play" Games for Quarters Club Members. Come in to Quarters from Open to Close (from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m)  for members all you can play. If you are not a Quarters Club Member, you can purchase a membership that day for $60/year.

Fun on the Farm: How Does Your Garden Grow? 

The event begins at 9:45 a.m. and ends at 10:30 a.m. at the Heritage Center, Hikes & Events, Parks & Open Space. Bring your kids ages 3-6 to the farm to learn about animals, plants, and agricultural life. Programs include a short story time, hands-on activities, and a take-home craft. Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party at City of Longmont Public Library 

Summer Reading is back at Longmont Public Library! From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m come celebrate the beginning of summer on our West Patio with three of our favorite summer-y things: ice cream, therapy dogs and the Summer Reading Bingo Challenge.

Drop by to get your Bingo Board and summer calendar of events, enjoy ice cream from the Sweet Cow Ice Cream truck and interact with trained therapy dogs. The first 100 kids (birth-17 years old) will get a free scoop of Sweet Cow ice cream on us. Ice cream will also be available for purchase for grown-ups and kids. Happy Summer!
