Longmont out and about: Festivities in Longmont this weekend to celebrate Tartan Day

A list of local events and happenings.

Colorado Tartan Day

The Colorado Tartan Day Council will host festivities over the weekend for Longmonters to celebrate Colorado Tartan Day. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 9-10, celebrate Celtic Heritage and meet the Clans honoring Scottish ancestors at Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont.

This event, which is sponsored by Molson Coors, is family-friendly and admission is free to the public. Live music will begin at 11 a.m. each day and feature Gobs O'Phun, a family duet performing traditional Celtic folk songs. The Renaissance Scots Living History Association will be at the event sharing the history of the holiday and demonstrating heritage crafts such as basketmaking, blacksmithing, weaving, leather working, and traditional culinary dishes. Event attendees will also have the opportunity to visit with the Empire for Medieval Pursuits, a group dedicated to the re-creation and enjoyment of the realities, myths, and legends of the Ancient to Medieval world. The group’s forum allows individuals to share a mutual interest in the celebration of the arts, customs, and ideologies of diverse and ancient cultures. There will be a special area for children’s activities, including face-painting and crafts. “And, Lemon Drop the faerie will be sharing a sense of wonder with trinkets and pixie dust.”

“Tartan Day celebrates Scotland's cultural and historic contributions to the world. We invite all who have embraced the Tartan to join us in celebrating family, community, nation, heritage, and the human need for connection.”
