From fireworks to symphonic music, there will be “something for everyone” at Longmont’s Fourth of July party this year, according to a city announcement.
The festivities will begin with the Fourth of July concert at Roosevelt Park (700 Longs Peak Ave.), which will include a picnic contest, performances by the Longmont Symphony Orchestra and Longmont Chorale, cannon firings, and more. Registration for the picnic contest begins at 11 a.m. and the musical performances and other special programming will run from 12:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Not long after the concert in the park concludes, the street party will begin on Emery Street from First to Third Avenues. Beginning at 5 p.m. and concluding at 11 p.m., the street party will feature three live music stages, carnival games, inflatables for kids, throwing axes for adults, food, drinks, and more. The street party area will provide “more space to get the best views of the drone and fireworks shows,” the announcement said.
High school students with the Innovation Center of St Vrain Valley School District Drone Performance Team will put on a drone light show above Dickens Farm Nature Area starting around 9:15 p.m. The show will feature 300 drones and include animations created specifically for Longmont’s Fourth of July celebration.
Following the drone show, the Skyline Kiwanis Club of Longmont will gift the city with a fireworks display beginning around 9:30 p.m.
“We are raising the money for the fireworks and we got about $10,000 to go,” said Kyle Snyder, who is a member of Skyline Kiwanis and is in charge of fundraising for the fireworks show. “There would be no fireworks in Longmont if the Skyline Kiwanis wasn’t raising the $50,000 and that’s a simple fact. And, we’re happy to do it; it does take a lot of work and effort.”
The fireworks will be launched from the Longmont Fire Training Center. Dickens Farm Nature Area and the Longmont Fire Training Center will be closed to all viewers and vehicles.
