The holiday season is here and yet everywhere you shopping holiday trees are adorned with paper ornaments with the names of Coloradans in need this season.

With the cost of inflation and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic looming, many families across Colorado are in need of help to have a happy holiday season.

Local nonprofits across Longmont are doing their share to provide as many people as possible with a surprise.

The Longmont Meals on Wheels program is collecting mittens, gloves and wrist warmers for its homebound neighbors through Dec. 14. Donations can be sent to Longmont Meals on Wheels at 910 Longs Peak Ave. or dropped off in the dropbox on the western side of the Longmont Senior Center. Click here to see ideas for purchase or sewing patterns.

YWCA Boulder County’s Persimmon Early Learning staff will collect gifts of new and unwrapped toys, games, art and craft materials, clothes — sizes newborn to children’s 14/16 — winter gear and outdoor toys through Dec. 9. Donations can be dropped off at the YWCA’s lobby at 222 14th St. in Boulder between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Heart of Longmont Church is hosting both a mitten tree and an angle tree this year. An angel tree stands in the Gallery at the church with tags adorning its branches. The church is asking participants to purchase and wrap the items on the list and return them no later than Dec. 16. As tags disappear from the tree, the church is asking they be replaced by new gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, underwear and socks sizes 2T-5T for the Head Start children who attend the church’s school.

The Longmont Humane Society has several giving trees placed throughout the community. Each tag on those trees lists filled with ideas that will help give a shelter animal a second chance.

Several St. Vrain Valley schools host their own giving trees. Please contact the school of your choice to find out ways to help those students.

The Salvation Army – Longmont Extension is looking for Holiday Bell Ringer Volunteers.  All donations collected provide Utilities and Rent support to LOCAL St Vrain Valley residents in need. Volunteers serve 2–4 hour shifts at a local store with shifts available Friday–Sunday November 25 – December 24. To learn more, please contact Ann Brandenburg via PM, 303-748-6156 or [email protected].

This list is not exhaustive. If we missed your organization or giving tree please email us the information at [email protected].
