A 49-year-old man is in the Boulder County Jail facing charges related to a stabbing last week as well as two separate bank robberies in Longmont.
George “Alex” Martinez was arrested at a home in Berthoud without incident Monday about 4:08 p.m., according to a Longmont Public Safety news release.
Longmont detectives in the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and Longmont Police K9s located Martinez at the home on the east side of Berthoud about 3:30 p.m. Detectives,K9s and deputies from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office surrounded the house before Martinez’s arrest, the news release states.
On Monday, about 10:45 a.m.Martinez robbed a bank in the 400 block of Coffman St. No vehicle used to leave the bank was seen. Based on bank surveillance photos, Longmont officers were able to identify Martinez, the news release states.
On Friday, May 20, about 10:10 a.m. Martinez robbed a bank in the 1600 block of Hover St. Police recovered a stolen vehicle used in the robbery in a nearby neighborhood, the news release states.
On Thursday, May 19, Martinez was involved in a stabbing in the 300 block of 14th Place. The victim survived her injuries, according to the news release.
As a result of the stabbing incident, a Boulder County arrest warrant was issued for Martinez for the following charges:
- Criminal attempt to commit second degree murder.
- Assault in the first degree.
- Domestic violence
A weapon was not shown in either bank robbery, and no one was injured. Martinez fled both banks with an undisclosed amount of money.
Martinez was transported to the Boulder County Jail Monday afternoon.
