Democrat Janice Mallory Marchman is  holding a lead in her bid to defeat incumbent Republican Rob Woodward for the newly constructed State Senate District 15 seat.

Marchman collected over 74% of the vote counted Tuesday to Woodward’s 25%, according to a 9:30 p.m. posting from the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder. But the race tightened overnight with Marchman getting 52.2% of the vote to Woodward's 47.8%.

Woodard passed several bills and resolutions during his tenure in 2021 and 2022 including prohibiting a local taxing district from charging non-physically present retailers business license fees to remit minuscule sale taxes that are due. Woodard also helped pass the Colorado Energy Office Geothermal grant program, according to his website.

Marchman is a former Thompson School District board member and current math interventionist. Marchman decided to run for the Colorado State Senate as a Democrat after the latest redistricting reforged Senate District 15 into one that could swing to the left after longtime Republican control, she told the Loveland Reporter Herald.

Defeating unfunded mandates on school districts, or requirements that don’t receive state funding for implementation, are a pet project of hers, the Reporter Herald states.
