The City of Longmont will fly an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), or a drone, along St. Vrain Creek today, weather permitting. The flight is scheduled for mid to late morning.

The flight plan is expected to between Price Road/Boston Avenue and South Bowen Street/Colorado Avenue and includes a 2-acre area surrounding the creek. However, according to the city, "the drone will not fly over BNSF Railroad property or right-of-way."

The City of Longmont assures residents that the drone will not reach an altitude greater than 400 feet and the pilot will be able to take over the drone at all times.

The purpose of the flight is to obtain pre-site condition imaging for water line replacement work. This work is scheduled to happen in 2019. Additionally, "the footage will also be used in public information activities related to the Resilient St. Vrain flood-mitigation project," states the city.
