Longmont Art in Public Places will host an open meeting Wednesday, July 20 for a selection panel to choose the finalists for the “Spoke Mural project.” The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Longmont Museum’s Stewart Auditorium at 400 Quail Rd. in Longmont.

The Spoke Mural project will feature a 1,645 square foot mural on the top tiers of the parking garage of The Spoke building, part of the Boulder County Housing Authority, located at 518 Coffman St. in Downtown Longmont. The art will face east and be visible from Main Street. The panel is seeking an artist or artist team to visualize a community hub and highlight the connection of the property to the surrounding area. Following a request for qualified applicants and application review, the project selection panel narrowed the field of Colorado artists to three finalists: AJ Davis, ILL.DES and Mariah Kaminsky. Each artist will be given 30 minutes to present the proposed design concept for mural on The Spoke building garage. Members of the public will be given two minutes per person to advocate for their preferred design after all artists have presented.

Once the selection panel has chosen the finalists, Art in Public Places will contract with the artist to complete the project timeline for the $60,000 commission. Upon the completion of the contract, Art in Public Places will formally announce the artist and present the final design.
