November 18

“Simple Gift” a concert by Rocky Mountain Chorale

Nov. 18,7:30 p.m. at the Heart of Longmont Church, 350 11th Ave., Longmont

Nov. 19 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1421 Spruce St., Boulder

Inspired by the beautiful Quaker hymn “Simple Gifts,” the concert will feature music of all genres – from classical to folk to modern – that celebrates the joy and wonders of life.

Tickets are $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for students and can be purchased via the Rocky Mountain Chorale website: www.rockymtnchorale.org, or at the door.

 

November 19

Youth Center Celebration

Saturday, Nov. 19, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. 

Join the Longmont Youth Center (1050 Lashley St) and the Northern Arapaho 477 Biixoo3etiit’ program for a day of celebration including fry bread, tacos and a presentation about the importance of buffalo. Youth will also learn how to construct a tipi with guidance from the Lennard and Dawn Buffalo Family. 

 

Unauthorized Absence

The Longmont Moose Lodge is hosting the band Unauthorized Absence for a public concert. All are welcomed to join. There is a $5 cover charge and a cash bar.

Join Ms. Lili for reading bilingual stories, playing, dancing and having fun in Spanish and English for children of all ages! All aged children with a grown-up are welcome.

COMING TO A PARK NEAR YOU: Each month, Ms. Lili will change park locations, giving the opportunity for all the Longmont community to participate. Please check our website every month for the park location.

 

November 20

Museum Film Series 

The first three Sundays in November (6, 13, and 20), the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road, will host a series of film screenings showcasing the stories of the Indigenous peoples of this land. The films will focus on the Northern Arapaho, whose land and territories once included the area now occupied by  Longmont. There is no cost for attendance, but reservations are recommended.  Q&A sessions will follow each film.

Little by Little: Becoming Sister Cities (2022)

  • 3 pm, Sunday, Nov. 20

  • This documentary prequel introduces the context of a historic first Sister Cities relationship with a sovereign tribal nation that was formalized between the City of Longmont and the Northern Arapaho Tribe in September of 2021. This short film explores a journey towards friendship and trust, and the ties that we all feel to a place that is both an ancestral homeland and thriving city.

Baby Connections for Caregivers and their Babies

Join the wonderful mental health professionals from Mental Health Partners' program Kid Connects in the Neighborhood for a social emotional circle time for children and their caregivers under the age of 2. We will be using an evidence informed curriculum, Parenting in Parent Education, which supports caregivers' understanding of early development and strengthens relationships with the children they care for. No registration necessary, just bring you and your baby for fun activities and learning together!

About Kid Connects in the Neighborhood

Kid Connects in the Neighborhood is a program with Mental Health Partners that supports children not in licensed care settings by providing education and social emotional support to their caregivers.

Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot

Silver Creek High School

The Silver Creek High wrestling team is hosting its annual 5k Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. These young men organize the event every year to make room for turkey and the fixings while preparing for their upcoming season. Due to tight restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, the team was not able to fundraise and need to catch up for some much needed items such as uniforms. 

The race will kick off at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The race is $20 to participate and donations are accepted. Prizes are available for the fastest in each age group and for the best costume.

Participants will be asked to complete a brief reading and then join us once every two weeks to discuss readings from "Great Books of the Western World," compiled by Mortimer J. Adler, an American philosopher. Some of the topics will include chance, religion and history.

The sessions will be lead by community member Brian Hansen. The schedule and readings can be found below or download a Word doc on the presenter's website.

The Library has more than 10,000 LEGO pieces, and at LEGO Club, we get them all out and build! Each time the club meets, we have a different building challenge. We also make a 'shared build' together. Family event- adults and kids build together. Kids younger than 10 years old must be accompanied by someone older than 14 years old dedicated to their care.

Lavender Gala

The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging (BCAAA)'s Rainbow Elders program is hosting the 22nd Annual Lavender Gala on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. This event features a three-course lunch hosted at Nissi’s Entertainment Venue and Event Center in Lafayette. Entertainment will feature “Gender Illusion Technician,” Mrs. Eda Bagel and dancing with DJ Susie Pringle. This is a celebration of and for the LGBTQ+ older adult community of Boulder County and allies.

  • When: Sunday, Dec. 4, 1-4 p.m.
