Longmont Police are investigating a fatal crash of a 78-year-old man cyclist who was hit Saturday morning by a car on Clover Basin Drive between Renaissance Drive and Delsarto Lane.

The man killed in the crash has been identified as Gary Abbuhl of Longmont, according to a news release from the Boulder County Coroner.

Jeff Satur, Longmont Deputy Chief Police Services, said via email the accident occurred at 8 a.m. Saturday. The car and Abbuhl, who was traveling in a recumbent bike, were both traveling eastbound on Clover Basin when the crash occurred.

Abbuhl was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. The driver of the car, 25, remained on the scene after the crash, Satur said. The driver of the car also lives in the city.

“As with all serious crashes, this crash will be thoroughly investigated and any updates will not be immediately available until all factors are reviewed and considered,” Satur said.
