Repairs to railroad tracks on Colo. 66  expected to be complete today will extend into Friday.

“The extent of repairs to the railroad crossing on (Colo.) 66 between Alpine and Erfert streets (east of Walmart) is greater than originally anticipated by BNSF,” the city stated in a news release

The area is anticipated to remain closed until Friday afternoon, and detours along Main and Pace streets and 17th Avenue will remain in place.

BNSF Railway began replacing damaged ties on its tracks at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, and originally expected the work to take two full days.

BNSF has experienced periodic issues at the Colo. 66 rail crossing, leading to multiple temporary emergency repairs in the past month, the city stated in the release.

This railroad work is not a city project, and the repairs are being coordinated by and paid for by BNSF and the Colorado Department of Transportation, but the city will share updates on the project via Facebook and Twitter, according to the relase.

Questions can be directed to BNSF at 800-832-5452 or via an online form at https://bit.ly/3mZby6j.
