This is my teen’s first job. How do we get started?
Getting job experience without having job experience can be tough, but we're here to help. Recreation Services and the Longmont Library have teamed up to offer an application and resume workshop for FREE on Saturday, April 25th from 2-4pm! Space is limited to twelve teens ages 15-19, so hurry and register for the workshop now at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/teen-young-adult-job-workshop-registration-94061852533. No email address? Call 303-651-8472 to register by phone. At this workshop, a local Human Resources (HR) professional from the Boulder Area HR Association will share tips, tools, and
resources to conduct a successful job search and get hired faster.
What does it pay?
Available positions start at $12/hr. Some positions pay higher based on the skills that are required.
How long does the application take? How does the hiring process work?
You can apply online in less than an hour, and then it can take a couple weeks to go through the hiring process, so get started NOW! To begin, apply online at longmontcolorado.gov/jobs. Then, we’ll call qualified applicants in for an interview. For lifeguards and swim instructors, a supplemental swim test is required. Next, if a job is offered and accepted, it’s time for a drug test and background check (for day camp leaders 17+). If the drug test and background check are clear, it’s time to do new-hire paperwork. Don’t forget to bring direct deposit bank information to the new-hire
paperwork session so you get paid! After that, it’s paid training and time to work. The whole process can take anywhere from one week to one month, so get started NOW for summer jobs!
What age does my teen have to be?
We have positions as lifeguards, swim instructors, concessions staff, and score keepers for teens as young as fifteen years old. For older teens and young adults, day camp leaders and front desk staff start at seventeen.
What kind of skills are you looking for?
First job? No problem! We’re hiring for reliable, flexible teens and young adults with a variety of skills and talents.
Do you have jobs longer than summer?
Yes! For teens and young adults who are looking for work throughout the year we have swim instructor, lifeguard, babysitting, and front desk positions available. And, in the winter
season, there are ice skating guard and ice skating instructor positions, too!
Why should my teen work for Longmont Recreation?
Many of our teens and young adults come back year after year because it’s fun! It’s not just about making money—although that is pretty great! Our teens and young adults build lifelong career skills, make friends, and have an impact on their community. Our staff get to hone skills in customer service, time management, conflict resolution, communication, problem solving, leadership, initiative, and more!
