In 2022, the beloved Longmont summer festival — Rhythm on the River — celebrated its 25th anniversary. At the start of the new quarter century, the city of Longmont decided to test out a new location.

“We just felt like it was time for a change,” said Sam Calhoon, recreation program coordinator for the city of Longmont.

The event will be moved from Roger’s Grove to Roosevelt Park. The date for the event is set for Sept. 16, which allows for the weather to be a bit cooler, Calhoon said.

Prior to the pandemic, several festivals were held at Roosevelt Park. Since then, not all have returned. The city wants to fill some of the gaps by moving some of its celebrations to a more centralized location.

Previously, the festival spanned multiple days, however, this year, the event will happen in a single day, spanning eight hours — 2-10 p.m.

This year’s event falls on Mexican Independence Day and the city has planned several activities to celebrate the holiday. In the midst of all this change, several things are expected to stay the same. Calhoon said residents can expect some of their favorite food trucks, activities and high-quality musical entertainment that will take place on the main stage.

The Roger’s Run 5K, otherwise known as The Greenway Glow, will remain at Roger’s Grove. Participants are encouraged to wear their best neon gear while walking, dancing, running, wheeling or prancing to the finish line. The run will take place on July 7 at 7:30 p.m. and registration is open now.

“It’s going to be the same event that they (people of Longmont) have known and loved and attended for the past 25 years. We are basically airlifting it to the central part of town,” Calhoon said.
