Final unofficial numbers show that Sean McCoy will be the next elected representative for the at-large seat on the Longmont City Council.

McCoy collected 13,081 votes (35.85%), Mitzi Nicoletti garnered 12,150 votes (33.29%) and Gary Hodges got 11,261 (33.29%) of the vote, according to the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder.

McCoy said he appreciated both Nicoletti and Hodges because they touched on issues — including homelessness and affordable housing — that are important to Longmont residents.

“I am happy and honored,” McCoy said. “I am very humble that I will be representing Longmont on the council.”

“All the numbers are in and Sean has won,” Nicoletti said Friday. “He is the winner.” Nicolettie called McCoy on Friday to congratulate him on his win. "She is a class act," McCoy said.

The race remained close after ballots were cast on Nov. 8 with McCoy holding a close lead as all the ballots were being counted.

McCoy is a former member of the city council and said during the campaign he wanted to help broaden housing options for Longmont residents.

Nicoletti is an environmental activist and said she will continue her role as a local advocate. “I am not going away,” she said.
