Today marks the beginning of Boulder County's Parks and Open Space annual seasonal wildlife closures.
These closures are implemented to preserve the wildlife which calls the area home.
Announced today, Caribou Ranch and Lagerman Agricultural Preserve are closing trails.
At Caribou Ranch, the Blue Bird Loop and DeLonde Trail will be closed until July 1, when the park will reopen, according to the Boulder County website. This closure is to protect the spring migratory birds as well as the elk calving and rearing that happens within the park.
Closer to Longmont, the western section of the Lagerman Trail loop is closed until Sept. 1 in order to protect nesting birds, according to the website.
Despite the trail closure, Lagerman Agricultural Preserve is still open to visitors. While swimming in the reservoir is prohibited, patrons can still enjoy canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, inflatables and boating, including motorized boats.
