During last night's city council meeting, Mayor Dennis Coombs proclaimed September 2017 as "Attendance Awareness Month."
Regina Quintana-Carnes, mental health and wellness coordinator at St. Vrain Valley School District, accepted the proclamation along with a co-worker and a student.
"On behalf of the student engagement and attendance department in the school district, we'd like to thank City Council for recognizing attendance awareness month. By recognizing this month, you are partnering with the school district and addressing one of the most important factors that students have to success," said a co-worker of Quintana-Carnes.
According to City Council Communication, "Attendance Awareness Month is a nationwide recognition of the connection between school attendance and achievement" and is used "to encourage schools and communities to remember that engagement matters for attendance."
