NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF LONGMONT
**************************

Sept. 27, 2022 – The City of Longmont has completed the temporary widening of Longs Peak Avenue to accommodate construction equipment for the Price Park Tank Replacement Project. Starting Sept. 28, there will be a new traffic pattern on Longs Peak Avenue with the eastbound and westbound lanes running next to each other on the south side of Longs Peak Avenue between Sunset Street and the entrance to Sunset Golf Course.

Two-way traffic will be maintained but the existing westbound lane of Longs Peak Avenue will be closed until the end of the project in early 2024. Pedestrian access will also move adjacent to the temporary traffic lanes on the south side of Longs Peak Avenue. Temporary widening will be removed at the end of the project and pre-project traffic patterns restored.

Starting Oct. 3, Sunset Street will be temporarily closed to through traffic in phases for waterline construction. The closures will be effective Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Each phase will last approximately one week and will close the sections of Sunset Street indicated below.

• Phase 1: Sunset Street from Ninth Avenue to Longs Peak Avenue
• Phase 2: Sunset Street and Longs Peak Avenue intersection
• Phase 3: Sunset Street from Longs Peak Avenue to Third Avenue

Local residents will have access at all times and will be notified at least 24 hours in advance of any necessary water shut-offs. Commuters are encouraged to follow detour signs to avoid the road closures on Sunset Street during work hours. Alternate routes will be Ninth Avenue to the north, Third Avenue to the south, Francis Street to the east, and Hover Street to the west. Longs Peak Avenue will remain open during Phases 1 and 3 but will be closed during work on the intersection in Phase 2. Access to Sunset Golf Course will remain open at all times from Hover Street.

Demolition of the existing 7-million-gallon reservoir is scheduled to begin on Oct. 3. Contractors will remove the roof and walls of the structure to accommodate the new above-ground 8-million-gallon water tank. The existing water tower, currently used for communications equipment, will remain in place and not be impacted by this project.

The City of Longmont appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during construction of this important water project. Current project information and traffic impacts can be found on the project website at bit.ly/price-park-tank-replacement
