There’s nothing like a peach party

Longmont Rotary Club uses it fundraising dollars to benefit the community

Longmont resident Andy Lee is a member of the Longmont Rotary Club. Each year the club sells Palisade peaches as a fundraiser. This year Lee is taking the sale to a new level and hosting a peach party.

The Longmont Rotary Club has a goal this year to invite more people to share in their good works. Lee was inspired to use the club’s annual peach sale to open a conversation with his neighbors.

He has inspired 10 of his neighbors to buy a half-box of peaches at $25 each and to make a peach-inspired dish. He said he is excited to see what his neighbors bring and so far he has heard suggestions of peach sangria, pork loin with a peach sauce, peach pie and cobbler and peach salsa.

More important than raising awareness of the club, Lee wanted to help raise money for ongoing projects supported by the club. Each year peach sales support sending young people to summer camps, book donations to children across the world, grants to organizations such as the Recovery Cafe and many more, he said.

All proceeds from the sale go to the Longmont Rotary Club and are later used to support its many project. Sales have begun. A full 18 pound box of peaches costs $45 while a 9 pound box costs $25.

Those who order can expect delivery on Aug. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at High Plains Bank, located at 600 Kimbark St. Payments are due at the time of pickup and can be done via cash or check.
