Tornado spotted east of Longmont

Firestone, Milliken, Mead, Platteville and Gilcrest need to take cover

A tornado was spotted by a Longmont resident just north and east of Longmont while traveling near Oglala Road on Colo 119, today around 5:30 p.m. 

Today's weather forecast from the National Weather Service predicted isolated thunderstorms. Around 5:24 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for southwestern Weld County until 6 p.m. tonight. 

At the same time, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado located near Platteville, 15 miles southwest of Greely moving northeast at 10 mph. 

The National Weather Service is warning individuals living in the areas of Firestone, Milliken, Mead, Platteville and Gilcrest to take cover in a basement or interior room and to move away from windows. 

"If you are outdoors, in a mobile home or in a vehicle move to the closet substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris," states the warning.
