Boulder County planners, on Monday, are scheduled to present their ideas to introduce enhanced bus service along the Colo. 287 segment that stretches from Broomfield to Colo. 66 north of Longmont.

Planners in April say they favor using a planned Coffman Street transitway to bring Bus Rapid Transit, or BRT, into Longmont. The Coffman Street busway is scheduled to be ready for use in 2024, said Phil Greenwald, Longmont’s principal transportation manager.

The Coffman Street proposal is expected to be presented to Longmont’s Transportation Advisory Board at 6 p.m. Monday. No formal vote is expected from the board..

A BRT feasibility study is scheduled to be finished by August, according to Jeff Butts, multimodal planner for Boulder County. Butts will be giving the presentation to the transportation advisory board.

There is no timeline for construction on the corridor, which is expected to cost $56 million. Funding sources have not been identified.

BRT would use dedicated lanes independent of normal traffic while passengers could buy tickets before boarding the buses through multiple doors, said Nick VanderKwaak, a transportation consultant working on the project with Boulder County.

“The goal is to increase the efficiency, attractiveness and utilization of transit” on the corridor, Vanderkwaak said during an April virtual meeting.
