This year is extra special

Yesteryear Farm Show will run Aug. 25-27, 2023.

The Yesteryear Farm Show has been an annual Longmont tradition for 38 years. This year two of its biggest contributors will be honored at the event.

The farm show was started in 1985 when Harvey Nelson, owner of Harvey Nelson Equipment in Hygiene, pulled his collection of antique farm equipment together. Over the years, the show has grown into a three-day event that features many pieces of farming equipment from days past.

The event this year will be held Aug. 25-27 at the Dougherty Museum located at 8306 N. 107th St.

The farm show has shared Nelson’s love for farming equipment with the public. Nelson died on June 19. Those who knew him said he amassed a collection of 40 pieces of farm equipment in his time, all of which he diligently worked to get to the show each year, even in his later years.

Another member of the farm show’s crew, Deacon Bob Howard, died on April 6. Howard helped where he could but primarily acted as the show’s announcer. He is described as a man who was always smiling and loved old machinery.

“We’ve lost Harvey and Bob, the Yesteryear Farm Show will continue. That is exactly what Harvey wanted, and that is what we will do. We will miss them very much,” said Dave Brown, secretary for the farm show, in an article in the Fence Post.

The show runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. It is a free event, however Dougherty Museum entrance fees apply.
