Basketball: Mead girls, boys squads, Longmont boys notch wins in first round of state playoffs

Three of four local high school basketball teams won their state playoff opening round games on Tuesday, advancing to the Class 4A Sweet 16 on Thursday.

The 12th-seed Mead girls defeated No. 21 Coronado 68-43 and next face fifth-seeded Falcon. See the full 4A girls playoff bracket here.

The Maverick boys also notched a win, beating No. 28 Canon City 68-43. No. 5 seed Mead advances to face No. 12 Holy Family.

The No. 2 seed Longmont boys beat No. 31 Falcon 56-52. Next up for the Trojans is No. 18 Sand Creek.

The Silver Creek boys squad fell 86-63 to No. 14 Fountain-Fort Carson in the Class 5A opening round, bringing a close to its season.
