Mead 48,  Frederick 14

The Class 3A Mavericks are likely headed to the postseason after dominating Frederick 48-14 on Friday night. In Mead’s five victories it has won by an average margin of 36 points. Mead’s one loss was at undefeated Roosevelt in a 21-20 overtime thriller on Oct. 16.

Senior running back and corner Brayden Keys leads the Mavericks in rushing, receiving and kick returns in 2020.

The Colorado High School Activities Association will announce the playoff brackets later today.

Ponderosa 40,  Longmont 13

Longmont took on one of the top teams in the state on Saturday as a last-minute replacement and fell 40-13 at Ponderosa.

With the win, Ponderosa improved to 6-0 and is surely headed to the postseason.

The 2-4 Trojans have the option of playing another opponent next week, after the playoff participants in each classification are announced today.

Longmont was originally scheduled to play league rival Greeley Central this week, but the game was scratched after Greeley Central was forced into quarantine after positive COVID tests at the school.

Longmont junior quarterback Keegan Patterson has amassed almost 2,000 yards passing this season with 14 touchdowns. But three interceptions proved costly in Saturday’s loss to Ponderosa, the No. 3 ranked team in the state. Caleb Johnson added 13 more catches for the Trojans and has accumulated 832 yards receiving in just six games.

Heritage 28,  Silver Creek 17

Silver Creek traveled to Littleton on Friday for a battle of winless teams but came up short, losing 28-17 to Heritage.

The loss drops Silver Creek to 0-6 in this shortened season.

Silver Creek has struggled since being reclassified as a Class 4A school in 2018, with a 7-19 overall record. The 2016 team reached the Class 3A state semifinals, while the 2012 squad defeated Rifle for the 2012 state championship.
