Silver Creek Unified Bowling team takes second at state

The Silver Creek Unified bowling team placed second at state this year.

The 11-player team along with 10 student mentors was coached by Ericka Pilon who is also a teacher at Silver Creek High School.

Unified bowling teams across the St. Vrain Valley School District bowl every Monday beginning in October at Centennial Lanes. These teams also make up their own region in the state. At the end of the season, all SVVSD teams compete against each other and the top three advance to state.

This year, Silver Creek took first place in the regional tournament followed by Niwot High School and Frederick High School. Each qualified for a spot at state.

The three schools competed among 27 teams at the state tournament on Nov. 17.

Two of the seniors on the Silver Creek team have gone to state three years in a row. This year they were excited to pull out a second-place trophy, Pilon said.

“It was important that my students went (to the state competition) and had a good time along with bowling their best games … All the hard work that they put in, I feel like finally paid off and they got this great accomplishment for the school and for themselves,” Pilon said.

On Wednesday, the Silver Creek Unified bowling team will take on the Longmont Police Department and some Silver Creek teachers. The battle for the pins will take place at Centennial Lanes.
