Governor Jared Polis, Mayor Michael B. Hancock, John Elway, Peyton Manning and the Mizel Institute will host the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 Commemoration & Tribute to the Heroes Concert on Wednesday, September 1st at Empower Field at Mile High. This event will pay respect to lives lost and honor first responders and service men and women and will be held outdoors.
Kenny Loggins will headline the concert following the remembrance ceremony. The commemoration will include a “March of Heroes” procession led by the Colorado National Guard and the public safety community, as well as the presentation of honors to include a flyover, Taps, firing salute and U.S. Navy bell tolls. The tribute concert, exclusively for members of the military, first responders, healthcare workers and educators, will recognize America’s heroes and celebrate our will to prevail.
“We salute the brave first responders and service men and women who work to keep our country safe,” said Governor Polis. “This meaningful anniversary allows us to pay tribute and our respects, as well as recognize healthcare workers and educators for their tireless efforts on 9/11 and during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are grateful to Kenny Loggins, a great American rock legend, for helping us unite on this day with a tribute concert.”
“9/11 changed our country forever, but we emerged from it stronger than ever,” said Mayor Hancock. “We are privileged to stand beside those who protect and defend as we acknowledge the strength and resilience of our country. And we are immensely grateful to all of the essential workers for guiding us through these challenging times.”
In conjunction with the commemoration, President and CEO Joe Ellis and the Denver Broncos will receive the Mizel Institute 2021 Community Enrichment Award for their outstanding contributions to the community and for helping to support military, first responders and essential workers.
