NEWS RELEASE

BOULDER COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

*************************

Starting Thursday, Oct. 27, members of the public are invited to attend in-person public hearings and meetings of the Board of County Commissioners, the Planning Commission, and the Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee. The Commissioners' Hearing Room was closed during the pandemic due to public health precautions and to facilitate a renovation for hybrid meetings, which allow for simultaneous in-person and online attendance and participation.

“The Boulder County Commissioners are delighted to welcome the public back to the Hearing Room,” said Board of County Commissioners Chair Marta Loachamin. “We know that accessing meetings by phone or computer suits many residents in our mountain and rural communities or those who are unable to attend in-person, and we are pleased to offer a permanent remote option while allowing us to be accessible to the public in-person.”

“The commissioners meet regularly on topics of interest to Boulder County residents and we’re looking forward to seeing those residents in-person again,” said Board of County Commissioners Vice Chair Claire Levy. “From land-use decisions to gun violence prevention ordinances to open space purchases, the commissioners cover a range of topics and welcome feedback from the public, both in-person and online.”

“The opinions and views of Boulder County residents play a huge role in the policies and decisions that the commissioners make on a weekly basis,” said Commissioner Matt Jones. “We’ve faced many challenges together as a community over the last couple of years and the voice of the community through the in-person or online attendance combination continues to play a vital role in how we overcome these challenges together.”

Ways to Attend Public Meetings and Public Hearings

Members of the public are invited to attend both public hearings and public meetings, but only public hearings have an option for public comment.

  • Attend in-person at the Commissioners’ Hearing Room, 3rd Floor, 1325 Pearl Street, Boulder – you can register online ahead of time or sign in when you arrive. The courthouse has ADA Accessible Parking and elevator access and the room has a Personal Amplified System for those who are hard of hearing. For special assistance attending in-person (or online), please contact the county’s ADA Coordinator at 303-441-3525 and allow 72 hours notice.
  • Dial-in by phone – register online to receive the dial-in details by email. Each meeting and hearing has an option to dial in by phone to hear the meeting and comment.
  • Attend online through Zoom – access meetings and hearings through the Zoom app on a smartphone or through a computer. To request live interpretation through Zoom in a language other than English for the Commissioner's Public Meetings and Hearings and the Parks & Open Space Advisory Committee, please follow the instructions found in the online registration for each meeting.

Commissioners’ Hearing Room

The upgrades to the Commissioners’ Hearing Room were part of the first renovation of the third floor of the Historic Downtown Courthouse in almost 40 years and were designed to facilitate hybrid meetings, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, and respect for the 88-year-old building as a historic landmark. The work was project managed and completed by the county’s Public Works department with the assistance of an audio-visual company.
