Boulder County, Colo. - On Sunday, October 3, 2021 at approximately 09:40 a.m., the Boulder County Communications was notified of a runner who had injured her ankle in the area of the Bear Peak West Ridge Trail, just west of Boulder, Colorado.
The 35-year-old female was running down the trail when she stepped down onto uneven ground causing her ankle to twist and pop. As a result of the injury, she was unable to walk out to the trailhead.
Rangers from the City of Boulder Open-Space and Mountain Parks arrived first and provided additional information for rescuers, as well as initial medical care for the injured runner. Rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group responded and took over medical care upon their arrival with the injured party. The injured runner was packaged into a beanbag splint and a litter. Rocky Mountain Rescue Group conducted a technical evacuation bringing the injured runner out to a road access point. The runner declined additional medical care and was given a courtesy ride to her vehicle.
Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Fire-Rescue, American Medical Response, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, City of Boulder Open-Space and Mountain Parks.
