Community members are invited to a Spanish-language round-table discussion on family bonds, designed to strengthen family communication and share resources and support. Hosted by Supporting Action for Mental Health (SAM), the event will take place on Thursday, September 2, from 4-6 p.m., at Recovery Café Longmont, located in CENTRALongmont Presbyterian Church at 402 Kimbark Street.

COVID-19 created a tough environment for many families. The combination of economic stress, instability, grief, and the close proximity of family members for long periods of time, created an atmosphere that stretched family relationships to their limits.

In this cafecito, friends, family, neighbors and community members are invited to come together to enjoy a cup of coffee and discuss family bonds. Local professionals in the field of family dynamics will share tips to strengthen family communication as well as offer information and resources for those needing guidance and support. Childcare and refreshments will be provided and attendees will have an opportunity to work on a craft to take home.

“Learning ways to communicate effectively with our family and friends – as well as how to support those that may be having relationship issues – provides useful information for local community members that may be struggling at this time,” said Kim Heard, the Project Coordinator for the Longmont Ending Violence Initiative (LEVI).
