CDOT kicks off winter with free tire checks and resources for the public

Winter is here, and CDOT is bringing together winter safety partners to share information, free tire checks, snow tire discounts, tire giveaways, snowplow tours and photo opportunities and more at the Winter Wise Village event on Friday, Dec. 16, from noon to 2 p.m.

The Winter Wise Village will feature CDOT’s Winter Wise campaign and the department of maintenance and operations, the I-70 Coalition, AAA, Colorado State Patrol, AutoSock and Peerless Tires.  
 

What: CDOT Winter Safety Village

  • Complimentary tire tread depth checks
  • Snowplow experience
  • Information, discounts and giveaways on tires and other winter safety materials
  • Remarks from CDOT and its safety partners

  • Location: CDOT headquarters at 2829 W. Howard Place, Denver
  • Date/Time: Friday, Dec. 16 from 12 to 2 p.m

  • Andy Hogle, CDOT Winter Wise public information officer
  • Margaret Bowes, director of the I-70 Coalition
  • Skyler McKinley, regional director of AAA Colorado
  • John Lorme, CDOT department of maintenance and operations.
  • Master Trooper Gary Cutler, Colorado State Patrol.

It’s essential for motorists to be prepared for snow and ice on Colorado roads. In a recent survey, only 64% of Coloradans were aware of the state’s Traction Laws, with 83% of in-state residents compliant.

Compared to 2020 survey results, Traction Law non-compliance increased by 10%, with roughly 75% of non-compliant vehicles driven by Colorado residents.

With 10.7 million travelers along the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels in 2022 and more Colorado drivers traveling statewide, staying prepared is crucial. The Winter Wise Village is imperative to equip Coloradans with the information and resources necessary to have a safe winter on Colorado roads.
