About Crafternoon Challenge - Hispanic Heritage Month

Come to the library on Mondays during Hispanic Heritage Month to pick up a craft kit to take home. Crafts are suitable for children three to nine years old with the help of an adult. Kits are available after Bilingual Storytime (10-10:30 a.m.).

Do this week's challenge

The morpho butterfly is a metallic blue butterfly that lives in the forests in Mexico, Central America, and South America.

See the instructions below to gather your supplies, or pick up a kit at the Library's Children's and Teens' Area, 409 4th Ave. (while supplies last). Then, see the instructions below to make this week's craft.

Supplies:

  • Black tissue paper
  • Different shades of blue tissue paper
  • Paper plate
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Instructions:

  • Cut a wedge out of the top and bottom of the paper plate to make wings.
  • Tear up blue and black tissue paper to fill in the wings.
  • Glue black tissue paper around the edges of the wings and use shades of blue to fill in the wings.
  • Curl a pipe cleaner and staple it to the top to make antennae
