Climber rescued near Second Flatiron after fall

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at approximately 8:45 a.m., the Boulder County Communications was notified of a climber who had injured his ankle after falling approximately 30 feet down the face of the Second Flatiron in the area of Chautauqua Park.

The 31-year-old male was scrambling on a portion of the Dodge Block climbing route when one of his handholds dislodged from the rock face causing him to fall approximately 30 feet. During his fall he sustained several injuries. As a result of his injuries, he was unable to walk out to the trailhead.

Medical care was provided by Rangers from the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Boulder Fire-Rescue, and rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.

Once the injured party was stabilized and his injuries splinted, he was packaged into a litter and evacuated to the trailhead by Rocky Mountain Rescue Group. At the trailhead, he was evaluated by paramedics from American Medical Response but refused medical transport. The injured party was released on his own recognizance and transported from the scene by private vehicle
