Climber rescued Sunday after fall near Crown Rock formation on Flagstaff Mountain

A man who had been bouldering in the area of the Crown Rock formation on Flagstaff Mountain was rescued Sunday after a fall that injured his ankle.

On Sunday, June 7, 2020, at approximately 12:17 p.m. the Boulder County Communications Center received a report via 911 of a male in the area of the Crown Rock formation on Flagstaff Mountain with an injured ankle.

Members of the city of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group located the injured party just north of the Crown Rock parking area. The 39-year-old resident of Boulder had been bouldering and fell approximately 10 to 13 feet, missing his crash pad.

Rocky Mountain Rescue Group carried the injured man approximately 400 feet from the bouldering area to the trailhead. His friend transported him to a local hospital for medical care. The rescue took approximately 50 minutes.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, city of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
