On Saturday, August 20, 2022 at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a fallen climber with injuries.
The 29-year-old male and his climbing partner were from Minnesota and climbing the Yellow Spur. The climber fell and his piece of safety equipment pulled out of the rock. The male fell approximately 35-feet, was partially caught by his rope and the belayer, but still had a hard ground landing.
Rocky Mountain Rescue Group along with Mountain View Fire Protection District units were with the injured climber in under 45 minutes. Rescue units provided medical treatment and packaged the injured climber into a litter for evac down steep, loose terrain. The injured climber was then high lined across the South Boulder Creek and checked by medical personnel. The patient refused transport and was driven to a local medical facility by his climbing partner. The rescue took approximately two hours.
Agencies assisting with the rescue included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Mountain View Fire Protection District, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
