NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF LONGMONT
*************************
Longmonters will soon be harvesting vegetables, fruits, and flowers across the city after more than 4,000 seed packets were handed out to community members from the Longmont Library’s Free Seed Library this spring!
The seed packets, funded by the Friends of the Longmont Library with additional donations provided by patrons, Botanical Interests, and BBB Seed, are part of the Library’s free services available to public. Running from early spring to the start of summer each year, members of the public are welcome to take up to six seed packets from the cabinet (an old card catalog) located in the Library’s lobby to plant in their gardens at home. The Longmont Library gave out a total of 4,753 seed packets for the spring 2023 season.
Call for Entry
Did you take advantage of this year’s Free Seed Library? Want to show off your garden? There are two ways you can! We are asking for community members to appear in short social media videos or send in your photos showing what you planted using the Library’s Free Seed Library seed packets. If you are interested, please send an email to [email protected] with your first name and last initial, email address, phone number and your pictures! If you are interested in being in a video, let us know in the email, too. Videos will be filmed by a City staff member between mid-August and mid-September. Let us know when your garden will be in full bloom!
Next Year’s Season
The Longmont Library Free Seed Library will return next season with the Gardening Fair kick-off at the beginning of spring. The public is invited to this free event, which features vendors and resources that benefit both beginner and experienced gardeners.
