Construction impacts for the week of Sept. 17, 2023

The closures will allow crews to paint new lane striping, relocate barriers and switch traffic onto new lanes as the project progresses

Berthoud to Johnstown

The following impacts scheduled for Sept. 14 are rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 21:
There will be temporary full closures of the southbound I-25 on-ramp from Colorado Highway 60/Weld County Road 48, and southbound I-25 off-ramps to Colorado Highway 56 and CO 60/WCR 48 for a traffic switch and to allow crews to paint new lane striping and relocate barriers.

  • Traffic switch: 9 p.m. - 5 a.m., southbound I-25 left lane closure shifting to right lane
    between Colorado Highway 402 and CO 56.
  • Southbound I-25 on-ramp closure at CO 60, 7 p.m. - 5 a.m.
    • Traffic intending to travel south will take northbound I-25 to exit 255, turn east on CO 402, and enter southbound I-25.
  • Southbound I-25 off-ramp closure at CO 56, 9 p.m. - 5 a.m.
    • Traffic intending to exit at Berthoud will continue southbound on I-25 to exit 245, turn east on Weld County Road 34, and travel north on I-25 to exit 250.
  • Southbound I-25 off-ramp closure at CO 60, 9 p.m. - 5 a.m.
    • Traffic intending to exit at Johnstown will continue southbound on I-25 to exit 245, turn east on Weld County Road 34, and travel north on I-25 to exit 252.

Due to weather impacts, the full closure of the Western Frontage Road (County Road 5) south of Larimer County Road 16 remains in place. Please follow posted detour signs. Traffic will be diverted to County Road 7 between LCR 16 and LCR 14.

Johnstown to Fort Collins

To install multiple overhead sign bridges above active roadway, install electrical and tolling elements and perform concrete finishing work a full closure of southbound I-25 from Mulberry Street to Harmony Road will take place from:

  • 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 15 until 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 16.

Southbound I-25 traffic will use Exit 269A/Mulberry Street (CO 14 East), continue east on Mulberry to CO 257. Turn right on CO 257, continue south to Harmony Road and turn right. Continue to west the southbound I-25 on-ramp. No access to southbound I-25 from Prospect Road during the full closure.

Prospect Road to southbound I-25 traffic will go northbound on I-25 to Exit 269A/ Mulberry Street (CO 14 East). Continue east on Mulberry Street to CO 257. Turn right on CO 257, continue south to Harmony Road and turn right. Continue to the southbound I-25 on-ramp.

To perform final paving and striping operations on the new I-25 roadway, various ramp and single lane closures will take place next week:

  • Full closure of the northbound I-25 on-ramp from Harmony Road will take place from:
    • 9 p.m., Sunday until 5 a.m., Monday.

Northbound I-25 on-ramp traffic will go south on I-25 to Exit 262/CO 392 and turn left.
Continue back onto northbound I-25.

Intermittent full closures of the northbound I-25 off-ramp to Prospect Road will take place:

  • Nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Monday, Thursday and Friday.

Northbound I-25 off-ramp traffic will continue north on I-25 to Exit 269/Mulberry Street and continue back on southbound I-25 to Exit 268/ Prospect Road.

Intermittent full closures of the southbound I-25 on-ramp from eastbound Mulberry Street and off-ramp to Prospect Road will take place: 

  • Nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.

Southbound I-25 on-ramp from Mulberry Street traffic will continue eastbound on Mulberry Street to northbound I-25 on-ramp. Continue north to Exit 271/Mountain Vista Drive, turn left and continue onto southbound I-25. Southbound I-25 off-ramp to Prospect Road traffic will go south on I-25 to Exit 265/Harmony Road and turn left. Continue back onto northbound I-25 to Exit 268/ Prospect Road.

Intermittent full closures of the southbound I-25 on-ramp from Prospect Road will take place:

  • Nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Southbound I-25 on-ramp traffic will go north on I-25 to Exit 269/Mulberry Street and continue back onto southbound I-25.

Daytime single lane closures on southbound I-25 will take place between Mulberry Street and Prospect Road daily from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

Single lane closures on I-25 between US34 and Mulberry Road will take place nightly, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Friday.

Daytime work, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. 

Southbound West Frontage Rd./I-25 On-Ramp at Exit 240

The I-25 southbound on-ramp at exit 240 will be closed from Sunday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. to Monday, Sept. 25 at 5 a.m. Zak Dirt will be removing and replacing the current inlet on the ramp to increase the drainage capacity for the on-ramp. Damaged panels will also be replaced on the existing off-ramp. Improvements will be made to the east-west pedestrian crosswalk on the south side of the intersection of Colorado Highway 119 and southbound frontage road.

To access I-25 southbound from Colorado Highway 119, travel south on Turner Boulevard and follow the detour signs to access the frontage road.

Southbound I-25

  • Southbound traffic will be shifted to the right 24/7 through October. 
  • Caution: Watch for workers on foot and operating equipment.
  • Trucks will merge with left lane traffic from the left shoulder. No lane changing in work zone.

Northbound I-25

  • Trucks will exit the highway from the left lane. Do not follow trucks into the work zone.
  • Lanes narrow slightly through the work zone - Watch for wide vehicles.

East I-25 Frontage Road

  • Tuesday - Friday, the construction crew will be setting a southbound traffic shift into the middle turn lane.
  • Flaggers will be in place to guide traffic.

Construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change. Please watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting mainline I-25 and obey all posted signage in construction zones. Your safety and the safety of our crews is our highest priority.

The I-25 North Express Lanes Project provides a Courtesy Patrol during commute hours (6 to 9 a.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) to assist with disabled vehicles within the Project limits from Johnstown to Fort Collins.

About the Project

Communities along the I-25 North corridor are expanding rapidly, contributing to major economic growth in northern Colorado. The Colorado Department of Transportation is supporting this growth by delivering the expansion of I-25 North. Improvements are currently underway along I-25 between Berthoud and Fort Collins (with more to come from Mead to Berthoud).

This project brings economic, environmental and quality of life benefits for northern Coloradans by:
