In the midst of global protests supporting racial equity and social justice, readership of materials examining these issues has grown exponentially.
In response, the Longmont Public Library is partnering with Overdrive Books’ “Black Lives Matter: Community Read” program to offer patrons unlimited digital access to two new titles focused on #ownvoices and intended to help patrons read, listen, learn, and grow as they expand their knowledge of race relations.
Patrons will be able to check out these books without waitlists or holds. On Monday, June 15, 2020, the eAudiobook of Michelle Alexander’s New York Times bestseller The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness was made available for 30 days.
On Monday, June 22, 2020 the eBook Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor by Layla F Saad will be available for three weeks.
Both of these books have long waitlists at libraries nationwide.
