Hiker rescued after medical emergency on First Flatiron Trail

On Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at approximately 3:51 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a hiker who had fallen in the area of Mt. Sanitas. Once further information was gathered, it was determined the injured party was in the area of the power line approximately 800 feet up the hillside from the Sanitas Valley Road.

Members from the Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District were first to arrive to find the 36-year-old male from Gilbert, AZ. in one of the gullies on the east facing hill side. The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group arrived and packaged the patient in a litter and then carried him to the ambulance where he was then transported to a Boulder area hospital. The rescue took approximately two hours and 45 minutes.

Agencies assisting with this rescue included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, American Medical Response, Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountains Parks, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
