Hiker sustained minor ankle injury and a heat-related illness on the Lion's Lair Trail

On Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022 at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an injured hiker at the top of Lion’s Lair Trail.

A 57-year-old female from Michigan was in town since Saturday and went for a hike with her family.

After summiting Mount Sanitas, the family was on their way down the trail when the hiker slipped, twisted her ankle, and went down to the ground. The female was also suffering from a heat-related illness.

Rescue units arrived at the hiker at approximately 2 p.m. After stabilizing the patient’s injury, rescuers moved the patient in a litter to the nearest access on Timber Lane. The patient was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Agencies assisting with the rescue included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Protection District, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
