Hiker sustains a minor ankle injury on the Lion's Lair Trail

On Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022 at approximately 1 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an injured hiker at the top of Lion’s Lair Trail.

The 60-year-old female was visiting from Connecticut and went hiking with friends. After summiting Mount Sanitas the group was on their way down the trail when the hiker slipped, twisted her ankle, and went down to the ground.

Rescue personnel made contact with the hiker at approximately 1:30 p.m. After stabilizing the injury, rescuers moved the patient in a litter to the nearest access on Timber Lane.

The patient refused further medical treatment and was driven to a local urgent care by friends. The rescue took approximately one and a half hours.

Agencies assisting with the rescue included: American Medical Response, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.

The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number was 22-4051.
