Hiker rescued after medical emergency on First Flatiron Trail

A 25-year-old female sustained an ankle injury while hiking in the Royal Arch area—just west of Boulder, Colorado—on Monday.

The hiker rolled her ankle when she stepped on a loose rock while hiking down from the Royal Arch.

Unable to put weight on her ankle, the hiker required assistance in getting back to the trailhead.

Rescuers from the City of Boulder Open-Space Mountain Parks and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group responded to the situation and provided medical care to the injured hiker.

The rescuers packaged the hiker into a full body vacuum splint and litter, conducted a technical evaluation, and brought her out to a road access point.

Declining any additional medical care, the hiker was given a courtesy ride to her vehicle, where she was transported from the scene by a friend to receive further care.
