Injured Hiker rescued from Lost Lake Trail

On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at approximately 5:25 PM, Boulder County Communications was notified of a hiker who had fallen approximately 15 feet in the area of the Lost Lake Trail, just west of the town of Eldora, Colorado.

The 49-year-old male fell approximately 15 feet landing upright and then tumbling, hitting his head. During this event, he sustained serious injuries. Initially, he attempted to walk out to the trailhead with assistance from other hikers, however he was unable to walk the entire distance due to his injuries.

Paramedics from Nederland Fire Protection District arrived at the injured hiker first, providing medical care and stabilizing his injuries. Rocky Mountain Rescue Group arrived shortly after and assisted in providing medical care as well as packaging the injured male. He was packaged into a beanbag splint and wheeled litter for evacuation to the trailhead. At the trailhead, Paramedics from American Medical Response determined the need for an Air Ambulance due to the severity of the injuries. A helicopter from Medevac responded and provided transport to a Denver area hospital for further medical care.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Nederland Fire Protection District, Nederland Police Department, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, American Medical Response, and Medevac.
